Falah Cast — Al-Kindi: The First Islamic Philosopher — Published

Title: Al-Kindi: The First Islamic Philosopher Live: https://iqra.falahos.my/al-kindi-the-first-islamic-philosopher/

Episode summary

Fifth and final episode of the Al-Shifa / Ibn Sina mini-arc. Bridges from the Ibn Sina medicine episode by stepping back a generation to ask why the whole Greek-Islamic philosophical synthesis tradition began. Introduces Abu Yusuf Ya'qub ibn Ishaq al-Kindi, "the first Islamic philosopher" / "Philosopher of the Arabs" — his role in the 9th-century Abbasid court in Baghdad under al-Ma'mun and al-Mu'tasim, his sponsorship and oversight of the translation movement bringing Aristotle and Neoplatonic texts into Arabic, and his own original work (On First Philosophy) attempting to reconcile Greek metaphysical reasoning with Islamic theology, plus his range into music, optics, medicine, and cryptanalysis. Frames him as the intellectual grandfather of the entire mini-arc and the broader podcast series: the figure who made al-Farabi, Ibn Sina, and Ibn Rushd possible.

Bridges to next

Closes by teasing Al-Razi — a sharper, more skeptical, rationalist contrast figure — as the next episode, stepping outside this mini-arc into the next phase of the series.

Mini-arc complete

This closes the five-episode Al-Shifa / Ibn Sina mini-arc that began with the Thomas Aquinas episode's bridge: Ibn Sina — Who Was He? -> Al-Shifa: The Flying Man -> Al-Shifa: Essence and Existence -> Al-Shifa: The Medicine Half -> Al-Kindi: The First Islamic Philosopher.
